The reading lights illuminate Neubrandenburg: an evening full of stories!

On November 22nd, Neubrandenburg will be the venue for all reading lovers when the “Reading Lights” event transforms the city center into a literary festival. From 7 p.m., ten different locations in the city will be the venues for a series of readings that will not only entertain, but also increase anticipation for the nationwide reading day on November 21st. The regional library support association has put together a varied program that has something for every taste.

Among the readers there will be interesting personalities from various professions, including teacher Kevin Winter, who will read from “Fabelheim” by Brandon Mull, and chief physician Rainer Kirchhefer, who will present excerpts from “Zauberberg 2” by Heinz Strunk. Bookseller Solveig Weller brings another highlight with “No Good Man” by Andreas Izquierdo, while Gerlinde Brauer-Lübs takes the audience into the world of stories with “Prague Sages” by Vaclav Cibula. Other contributors include Regina Raderschall with “Bedtime Stories of a Different Kind” and Joachim Schiller, who presents his fantasy work “Treasure of the World”. Frank Wilhelm concludes the program with his work “Simply totally brilliant… Why we Ossis cannot be stopped”.

Variety of venues

The readings take place in renowned and new venues. The well-known hosts include Café 25 Grad, the organic market and the Boulevard Café. New are the tower café and the “Einklang” shop. Three readings of 25 minutes each will take place in each of the ten locations, interrupted by 15-minute breaks that provide sufficient time for changes of location and discussions. A very special finale awaits guests at 9:15 p.m. in the foyer of the regional library, where Mayor Nico Klose and his deputy Peter Modemann will bring the event to a close.

Admission to this cultural event is five euros and the entire amount goes to a Neubrandenburg initiative, this year to the Society of Theater Lovers. Last year, an amount of 1,855 euros was collected for the RAA reading sponsors, and a total of around 400 visitors enchanted the city with their enthusiasm for books and reading culture.

Commitment to reading

“Reading Lights” is part of a large conglomerate of activities to promote reading in which children and young people nationwide can take part. Projects such as reading initiatives, reading nights and reading festivals show how important reading and the joy of reading are. Many families are invited to take part in the program beyond events such as the nationwide reading day. With its various programs, the Reading Foundation ensures that the fun of reading is also actively practiced in schools and libraries. This illustrates the joint effort to promote and cultivate reading in all age groups, especially among the youngest in Germany.

The comprehensive program is available on flyers, which are displayed at all participating locations as well as at the HKB ticket service and at selected partners. So if you're in Neubrandenburg on November 22nd, you shouldn't miss this literary night!
