A tragic incident caused consternation on Wednesday evening in Daskow, in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. A fire in a single-family home was fatal for the 76-year-old owner. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. and was caused by a deflagration while the fireplace was operating, as Tixio reports.
Two neighbors noticed clouds of smoke and cries for help and rushed to help. While the deceased's 41-year-old stepson was able to leave the house with minor injuries, the old man was taken to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The two helpers, a 28-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, also suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
Causes of the disaster
Deflagrations in the chimney should not be underestimated. These occur when fuel gas ignites in the chimney before it can escape upwards.
