Drunk driver causes horror accident in Dömitz – child injured!

In the small town of Dömitz, located in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, there was a serious traffic accident on Thursday evening, which affected several people involved. A 36-year-old driver who was under the influence of alcohol lost control of his vehicle and drove into oncoming traffic. This resulted in a collision with the trailer of an oncoming tractor and then a collision with a following van.

The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. when the man was driving with a breath alcohol level of 2.79 per mille. There was also a four-year-old child in the car who fortunately was uninjured. However, the driver's injuries were serious: he was immediately transported to hospital after witnesses freed him from the vehicle.

Rescue measures and damage

The quick reactions of passers-by proved to be life-saving. The 36-year-old had to receive immediate medical attention after being rescued, while the other people involved in the accident, including the child, fortunately escaped without any physical injuries. Both the car that caused the accident and the tractor trailer were no longer drivable after the incident and had to be towed away. The estimated material damage amounts to around 30,000 euros.

After the accident, there were temporary traffic disruptions in the through-town area of ​​federal highway 195 in the “Leopoldsbrunnen” area. Police have launched an investigation into a dangerous traffic incident and the driver's condition raises questions about safety on our roads.
