Young conservationists: Students plant 120 trees in Mestlin!

In the beautiful nature of northern Germany, more precisely in the forest area between Mestlin and Kadow, young environmentalists got involved today. 14 students from the fourth grade at the Kneipp primary school in Mestlin actively planted small trees as part of a forest propagation program. This unique event took place under the expert guidance of district forester Jörn Schilling, who accompanied the children throughout the day. A total of around 120 beech and red oak trees were planted, entirely in the spirit of sustainable reforestation.

The students got involved and even brought their own spades. The warm weather allowed the ground to not freeze, making planting even easier. Each tree required a hole about 25 centimeters deep, and after planting, the layers of earth around the trunks were compacted so that the plants could grow optimally.

Reforestation with foresight

This reforestation area extends over around 30 hectares and is equipped with a wildlife fence. This means the small trees are well protected from being eaten by wild animals. The trees themselves were generously sponsored by the forestry company Michael Schröder from Lenschow. The time for planting is ideal to make it easier for the seedlings to grow and to secure the future forest area.

But it wasn't just the trees that took center stage at this event. Education for young people also plays a major role. A look at the Bildungsserver-Wald website shows how diverse the topic of forests can be taught. As part of the “Forest and Climate Education Network – The Climate Experts” project, this platform offers numerous free educational and information materials that deal with the forest and its ecological value.

The initiative is run by the German Forest Protection Association. V. supports and receives funding from the Forest Climate Fund. This fund is jointly supported by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, which underlines the importance of the reforestation projects. It is important that the next generation also develops an awareness of nature and actively participates in its preservation.

This successful event shows how children not only learn through play, but also demonstrate a good hand for the future preservation of our forests. Here we not only take care of the present, but also the future - a big thank you to everyone involved for their commitment!
