Ludwigslust-Parchim district presents: District with bite” 2026!
As always, interesting developments are happening in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district: On November 30, 2025, District Administrator Stefan Sternberg (SPD) presented the new “District with Bite” campaign during the annual reception in Parchim. This initiative highlights the special characteristics of the district and starts in January 2026 during Green Week in Berlin.
“County with bite” should be a motto that not only puts more focus on the region, but also on its people. For District Administrator Sternberg, it is important to present the diversity and many opportunities of the district. The focus is on a wide range of events that will take place in daycare centers, schools and retirement homes. Collaboration with local farmers' associations is also planned to celebrate rural values and products.
Detailed campaign for a lively region
The highlight of the campaign will be the state harvest festival in October 2026 in Grabow, a little jewel in the district. However, there is no precise overview of the costs of these measures, which could fuel the rumor mill. A look at the eventful history of the district shows that it has existed since the district reform in 2011 and is located in the southwest of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The Ludwigslust-Parchim district covers an area of 4,752 km², making it the second largest district in Germany. Despite this vastness, the region has the lowest population density in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, with 44 inhabitants per square kilometer. The district town of Parchim and the administration in Ludwigslust act as central components of the district, which includes a total of 142 municipalities and has 208,092 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2024).
Economy and infrastructure in focus
When it comes to economic development, the district is heavily influenced by tourism. Larger employers include Hydraulik Nord and the confectionery factory in Grabow. Food manufacturers in Hagenow and Wittenburg are also part of the region's economic base. The transport connections are guaranteed by the federal motorways 24 and 14 as well as a well-developed local rail passenger transport network.
In addition, the district offers a variety of leisure opportunities and relaxation oases with 59 nature reserves and parts of the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide nature park. Particularly noteworthy are the larger lakes in the area, such as Lake Plauer and Lake Schaal, which attract both locals and tourists.
Overall, the new campaign “Country with Bites” brings a breath of fresh air to the region and ensures that the diverse opportunities and natural beauty of the area are not forgotten. The anticipation for the upcoming events and the positive development of the region remains high.
