Christmas magic in Parchim: King Thrushbeard delights young and old alike!

What is currently happening in tranquil Parchim? The young state theater is excited about the Christmas season, because today, December 8, 2025, there is a festive performance on the program: “King Thrushbeard”. As mecklenburgisches-staatstheater.de reports, the play tells the humorous story of the haughty King Helmuth von Pütterich, whose daughter turns out to be an unfriendly princess and has difficulty dealing with strangers.

The plot unfolds when King Drosselbart and his loyal friend Otto knock on the doors of the castle on their journey to the most beautiful Christmas markets in Northern Germany, opened by the charming town of Parchim. Lost in the mists of the Vietingshöhle, the king invites both travelers to dinner. The king is once again reminded of his daughter's unfriendly behavior. He orders her to accompany Thrushbeard and Otto, without knowing who they really are.

A magical Christmas fairy tale

The premiere took place on November 9th in the Kulturmühle and was a complete success. Nordkurier.de reports that over 45 more performances are planned until the end of December. Directed by Thomas Ott-Albrecht, the ensemble inspires with humor and enthusiasm and particularly attracts families who want to spend an entertaining evening in the theater. The high level of popularity shows that the combination of historical references with modern elements and humor is well received.

The piece not only offers child-friendly entertainment, but also takes the audience into the festive atmosphere of the Christmas markets. Drosselbart and Otto are on the road as bratwurst testers and fight their way through the pre-Christmas rush, while in the background preparations for a wedding in the castle are in full swing. A funny mix-up ensues when the princess secretly wants to check on her groom and finds out that he is the charming Thrushbeard.

Christmas markets in the north

Parchim is not only the setting of the fairy tale, but also ideally located for a trip to the most beautiful Christmas markets in northern Germany. Merian.de particularly highlights the Christmas market in Kiel, which will take place for the 52nd time in 2025. Here, in addition to the nostalgic flair, visitors can enjoy punch, flamed salmon and Scandinavian delicacies. A big highlight is the impressive, twelve meter high Christmas pyramid, which captivates visitors.

The Christmas markets in Parchim and the surrounding area are booming during this time. Advent Sundays in particular attract children and families when Santa Claus provides sweet surprises. But it's not just eating and strolling - the Christmas fairy tale “King Thrushbeard” helps make the pre-Christmas period in Parchim an unforgettable experience.

If you don't want to miss the production, you should secure your tickets early. These are available online via the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater website and directly at the theater box office in the Kulturmühle Parchim. A visit to the Christmas market and a performance of the fairy tale are recommended as the perfect duo for a wintery day in the region.
