Miko the rescuer: German Shepherd discovers helpless man in Perleberg!

In the tranquil town of Perleberg, a four-legged hero has once again proven that dogs are not only loyal companions, but also real life savers. Karina von Kiedrowski had taken her two-and-a-half-year-old black German Shepherd Miko on a walk not only for the joy of it, but also as a challenge, as this little excursion would prove to be vital.

As they strolled along the dirt road opposite the district hospital, Miko curiously sniffed the tall grass. Suddenly the dog drew attention and discovered a helpless older man who was apparently lying in the blazing sun. “He was hardly responsive and only gave a weak yes when asked if he could be helped,” remembers Karina. She immediately alerted the emergency services, who were finally able to free the man from his predicament. According to emergency services, the man was very lucky to be found so quickly, and Karina and her husband Siegfried were extremely relieved about the happy ending.

Special training makes the difference

Miko is not just any dog. He has been trained to excel in security operations. The family adopted him eleven weeks ago after their previous dog died. Miko has distinguished herself as a drug and explosives detection dog as well as a protection dog. He received his training in Siegerland, where the basic requirements for a successful career as a sniffer dog were laid. Karina also visits the police dog school in Oranienburg with him.

What is special about Miko is not only his training, but also his sensitivity to health emergencies. “He can actually smell when people have low or high blood sugar levels,” explains Karina. This ability turns out to be extremely important because her husband Siegfried is diabetic and Miko has already noticed when Siegfried is not feeling well. Trainers and experts take note: Diabetic alert dogs, which are specially trained to detect deviations in blood sugar levels, offer valuable support in everyday life and can even bring emergency bags or blood glucose meters. They are true lifesavers in critical situations, as shown by the training of Eva Hackl, a trainer for diabetic warning dogs who offers individual training programs.

A valuable contribution to security

Training dogs to become drug detection dogs is becoming increasingly important in Germany. The “Germany” sniffer dog school offers comprehensive training that is not only intended for security forces, but also contributes to prevention in schools and at events. Requirements such as a good play instinct and the dog's health are crucial for the success of the training. The training takes place in block classes and is based on international standards, which underlines the high quality of the training.

Karina emphasizes that Miko's diverse training as a search and protection dog has proven to be extremely valuable. “It not only ensures security in our home, but can also provide crucial help in critical moments,” she says. And history shows that their assessment is not exaggerated. Miko is more than just a pet - he is a real hero of the family.
