Newcomer Janitorial Service” triumphs at the Volleyball Autumn Cup!
The eagerly awaited Volleyball Autumn Cup took place in Ferdinandshof last weekend. Eleven teams, including the cup defenders “No Idea” and the established players “Pancake” and “Kneepads”, fought for the coveted trophy. Young newcomers from Gollmitz, Jarmen, Ahlbeck and Jatznick were also at the start and provided a breath of fresh air in the tournament.
The hosts competed with three teams and played in the popular “small field 4 against 4” format, which has become a real hit this season. In this form of the game, at least one woman per team must be on the field. Interesting encounters were played in the preliminary rounds, with only two sets being played per game. Many games ended in a draw, which made the competition particularly exciting. From the second round onwards things really got down to business: the game was played in two winning sets, which often led to nerve-wracking third set decisions.
The final round and its winners
The final round finally offered thrilling games in which the teams “Pancake”, “Hausmeisterservice” from Jarmen and “Los Agilos” from the host competed for the challenge cup. In the end, the newcomers “Hausmeisterservice” prevailed, winning both games in the tiebreak. A real triumph for the young team, which was able to prove that there is a breath of fresh air in the top places.
- 1. Platz: Hausmeisterservice
- 2. Platz: Los Agilos
- 3. Platz: Pancake
The performance of the young host team, which consisted of a U16 team plus a committed father, was also remarkable. They finished in a solid 5th place, while the popular team “My Favorite Team” came in 6th place.
A look at the rules of the game
It is important for all spectators and participants to know the basic rules of volleyball in order to better understand the games. As the FIVB explains, there are six players per team who must rotate clockwise each time they win serve. Only the three players at the net position are allowed to jump and attack or block at the net. Another crucial aspect is the rally point system, which has been used since 1998: points are scored with every rally, regardless of which team is serving. This made the gameplay more dynamic and exciting.
The playing field is 9 x 9 meters and is divided into two halves by a net. The net height varies, being 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women. There are strict rules to avoid mistakes: passing too often or touching the net can quickly lead to a loss of points. A team always needs a two-point lead to win a set - this is especially true in the decisive fifth set, which goes up to 15 points.
The volleyball community in Ferdinandshof agreed: This tournament was not only an opportunity for competition, but also a celebration for all volleyball enthusiasts. Who knows, maybe we'll see even more surprising teams and exciting encounters at the next Autumn Cup. Northern Courier reports on the exciting gameplay during the FIVB as well as Erima impressively summarize the essence of the game and the basic rules that make volleyball unique.
