Recall alert: Dangerous listeria in fish and cheese at Rewe!

A worrying recall is currently affecting numerous food retailers across Germany. Ruhr24 reports that Rewe and other supermarkets are affected by a double recall after the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) issued a fish warning.

A variety of products are affected, including the popular smoked herring fillets from the Rügen Fisch brand. Buyers should pay particular attention as the recall includes several large retail chains, such as Dohle, Edeka, Globus, Hamberger, Jawoll, Netto ApS, Transgourmet and Rewe itself.

Recall of cheese and fish

Specifically, the first recall concerns Entremont brand raclette cheese, which is available in different pack sizes (125g, 200g and 1kg). The best-before dates are between November 15th and 27th, 2025. The reason for the recall is possible listeria contamination, which can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, seniors and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of a listeria infection include fever, diarrhea and muscle pain.

The second recall affects various fish products from the Baltic Sea Fish supplier, including various herring and herring items. These products also have a best-before date that extends to November 27, 2025. Bacterial contamination is suspected, although no specific bacteria have been named so far. Customers are advised not to consume the affected products but to return them to the respective branches or dispose of them properly. Even without a receipt, the purchase price will be refunded.

The current incidents once again underline the need for vigilant handling of food. It's worth taking a close look at the labels when shopping and finding out about recalls. For everyone who has purchased affected products, safety comes first - returning them is the best solution.
