Sensational racing sailing event: SailGP on August 16th and 17th in Sassnitz!

An exciting weekend is ahead! On August 16th and 17th, 2025, Sassnitz on Rügen will be the venue for one of the most spectacular events in international sailing: the SailGP. This is the first time that this top-class racing sailing league is stopping in Germany. With a total of 12 teams from 12 countries and a total prize money of 12 million US dollars, the event promises to be a real spectacle that will also make the hearts of local fans beat faster. Traffic regulations and visitor infrastructure

According to the Sassnitz's official website Temporary closures of the entrance to Sassnitz are planned on the day of the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, visitors arriving by car can get to the city from the Mukran car park via public transport and shuttle buses.

For the duration of the event, the road between RügenFisch and the water police will be completely closed until August 29, 2025. The construction and dismantling of the wind promenade area will also lead to further restrictions. Exceptions apply to emergency services and ticket holders who gain access via the B96.

The economic impact of the SailGP in Sassnitz is estimated at approximately $10 million. This could represent a significant contribution to the local economy. At the same time, the Germany SailGP Team, supported by Thomas Riedel and Sebastian Vettel, is looking for further sponsors in order to secure financing.
