Magical zoo evening: open-air cinema and animal photography in Schwerin!
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, a very special event will take place at Schwerin Zoo: the “ZooKultur” event, which is intended to attract animal lovers and film fans alike. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. with a fascinating open-air exhibition from the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards, showcasing wildlife photographs from the last ten years. Among the pictures you can also discover unpublished recordings that not only show the beauty of nature, but also capture funny moments. Visitors have the opportunity to observe the unique zoo residents in the romantic evening light - an experience that should not be missed.
But that's just the beginning! From 9:45 p.m. there will be another highlight: Schwerin Zoo will introduce its popular open-air cinema, which is very popular in this seasonal series. The film “BAMBI – A Life Story from the Forest” (2024) will be shown with a running time of 78 minutes and the sensitive voice of Senta Berger. The zoo's romantic pond landscape forms the perfect backdrop for this film screening. Visitors are invited to bring their own blankets, pillows or folding chairs to sit comfortably outdoors. For those who value spontaneous decisions, there is also some seating available on site.
Food and weather
Your physical well-being is also taken care of. There will be a variety of food options on site, including barbecue stalls, fresh popcorn and a selection of cool drinks. The farm counter also offers special dishes that make the visit a culinary experience. And don't worry, even if the weather doesn't cooperate - the event will take place even if it rains. Just in case, rain ponchos can be purchased and visitors are welcome to bring their own umbrellas.
Ticket buyers can look forward to ongoing sales campaigns that started on May 12, 2025. Tickets are sold via the zoo box office and the zoo's web shop, although it is strongly recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance. If demand is high, the box office could close earlier - and that would be a real shame!
Cultural connections
The “ZooKultur” event focuses on combining culture and nature and creating an experience for the whole family. Similar formats are not only very popular in Schwerin, but also in other zoos such as the one in Osnabrück, where films are regularly shown outdoors. The open-air cinema starts there on July 28th and offers a varied program over several weeks.
