Growing interest: waiting lists for the Stralsund inclusion school!

Today we take a look at the creative and inclusive training offered at the “unseKinder” children’s and youth campus in Stralsund. Those responsible here have made it their mission to create a learning environment that is based on appreciation, respect and community. This philosophy not only promotes children's curiosity, but also their talents and social skills. In the heart of Knieper West, in the building of the former Herder High School, 110 girls and boys are currently learning in a supportive environment.

The campus has enjoyed high demand in recent years. In particular, learning family 3, which includes students in the 7th and 8th grades, is in high demand, so that there are already waiting lists for some groups. As the Baltic Sea newspaper reports, an open day will be held on October 12th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to give interested parents and children an insight into the educational concepts and campus life.

### Pedagogical concept and team

The team consists of ten dedicated learning companions who act as coaches or mentors. These are supported by educators, Bufdis and trainees as well as integration helpers. There is also a close partnership with the University of Greifswald, which is used for training purposes. External honorary staff contribute specialist knowledge in subjects such as English, sports, biology and physics. A special feature of the lessons is that the natural sciences are not taught separately. Instead, the topics are dealt with in a so-called research workshop - a concept that motivates children to make practical discoveries.

The students not only work depending on their year, but also in flexible groups that create a familiar learning atmosphere. Regular learning development discussions encourage children to self-reflect so that they learn to assess their own performance. Grades are only awarded from grade 8 onwards, which benefits relaxed learning. As for electives, children can choose from a variety of activities, including kickboxing, 3D printing and even language courses in Norwegian, Japanese and Russian.

### Inclusive education in focus

Inclusive school concepts are not just a trend, they require courage, creativity and commitment. The children and youth campus “unseKinder” is a shining example of how inclusive learning can be implemented. The initiative aims to enable children to learn together and joyfully, and offers a safe environment for their individual development. This also shows that Education server, which points out that successful practices for inclusive schools should be emulated.

Furthermore, various initiatives and materials, such as Aktion Mensch's “Pedagogical Booklet” or the “Bunte Gang”, are active supporters that make inclusive learning in the classroom easier. These resources are important to promote the quality of joint teaching and to open up different perspectives for didactics.

Overall, the children and youth campus “unseKinder” is not only a place of knowledge, but also a space for social encounters and individual development. This concept shows that education is much more than just the transfer of knowledge, but a shared experience that involves everyone.
