Important recall: EHEC bacteria in Radeberger beef crackers!

Sausage lovers should be particularly careful these days: The recall of “Original Radeberger beef crackers” affects not only Edeka, but also other large retail chains such as Kaufland and Netto. The reason for this alarming step is the detection of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (EHEC) in the meat product, such as Ruhr24 reported. These dangerous bacteria can cause serious gastrointestinal illnesses and can be particularly severe in children.

The manufacturer Radeberger Fleisch- und Wurstwaren Korch GmbH initiated the recall on October 17, 2025 after an increase in EHEC cases in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since mid-August 2025, according to the Robert Koch Institute. The affected beef crackers come onto the market in 240 gram packaging with the best before date of November 4th, 2025 and the batch number 539213226. The EAN number is 4047329132261.

Health risks and symptoms

Sausage lovers should be aware of the risks: EHEC can cause severe gastrointestinal distress, ranging from diarrhea, abdominal cramps and nausea to bloody diarrhea and even kidney failure. Infants, small children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Symptoms typically appear two to ten days after infection, often on average after three to four days, according to wa.de.

Consumers who have purchased the affected beef crackers are advised to consume the product immediately or return it, even without a receipt. The purchase price will be refunded at the Edeka, Kaufland, Netto and various consumer stores in Saxony and the surrounding area.

Preventive measures

To prevent infection, the Robert Koch Institute recommends various hygiene measures: frequent hand washing, cooking meat through, avoiding raw milk and washing vegetables thoroughly. You should also heat sprouts and use separate work surfaces and utensils for raw products.

Given the current health risks, caution is advised - anyone experiencing symptoms such as bloody diarrhea should seek medical attention immediately. Keep yourself and your family healthy by keeping an eye on what ends up on the table, even when it comes to sausage products.
