Harbor festival in Wismar starts with beer barrel tapping and fireworks!

On June 13, 2025, the time had finally come: The harbor festival in Wismar, one of the pearls in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, was officially opened. The first big highlight of the festival was the traditional beer barrel tapping, in which brewer Holger Köpcke, President of the Citizens Sylvia Bartsch and District Administrator Tino Schomann taped the first beers. A festive barrel parade through the old town of Wismar set the starting signal for a weekend full of entertainment and social get -together.

The harbor festival runs until Sunday evening and offers a variety of attractions in and around the old harbor. Already the day before, booths, carousels and a large ferris wheel had been put into operation. In a colorful program on three stages, not only well -known bands appear, but shanty choirs also revitalize the maritime atmosphere. One of the stages is entirely geared towards the younger generation and was organized by the youth rings of the city and the district.

Wismar is proud to be considered a UNESCO World Heritage City, a title that it has achieved due to its old gable houses, three monumental churches and the atmospheric port. Many of the historical buildings and treasures of the city are focused on the festival, which also strengthens awareness of the importance of this cultural landscape. The cultural heritage includes the old towns of Wismar and Stralsund, which were part of the Hanseatic League and are considered an important legacy of the trade region.

Of course, the traditional ships are also the focus of the event. In the two weeks after the festival, everything revolves around the region's freshness.
