Serious accident on Usedom: 70-year-old and granddaughter fight to recover
On Saturday morning, July 19th, a serious traffic accident occurred on the B110 near the Zecheriner Bridge on the island of Usedom. At around 7:20 a.m., a 70-year-old Mercedes driver left the road for unknown reasons. The car drove into the ditch, overturned and ended up on its roof. In addition to the driver, his 14-year-old granddaughter was also on board. Both were seriously injured in the incident, but initial information indicates that their lives are not in danger. The emergency services took them to the hospital in Greifswald, where they received medical care.
As the Baltic Sea newspaper reported, the material damage amounts to around 30,000 euros. The vehicle was no longer drivable after the accident and had to be recovered by a towing company. The B110 had to be completely closed for around 1.5 hours while the accident was recorded and the subsequent rescue measures were carried out.
Emergency services on site
Numerous emergency services were on site, including the Heringsdorf police station, the rescue service and the Usedom volunteer fire department, which were on duty with three emergency vehicles and a total of 16 comrades. A rescue helicopter was also on site to help quickly treat the injured. Sebastian Meinhardt, First Police Chief Inspector of the Neubrandenburg Police Headquarters, is leading the investigation to clarify the cause of the accident.
The circumstances that lead to such serious accidents are often complex and require in-depth analysis. The Traffic accident statistics regularly show which factors contribute to accidents and how they can be counteracted. The data collected is crucial for measures in traffic safety and infrastructure planning.
Although accidents like this are always tragic, it is important to emphasize that emergency services were able to respond quickly. A good hand in emergency care can often have a significant impact on the fate of those affected. We wish the two injured people a speedy and complete recovery.
