Former city director Alberts honored with the Cross of Merit in Aurich

In a ceremonial setting, Reiner Alberts, the former city manager of Norder, was honored with the Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He received this award on August 14, 2025 in the Sandhorster Krug in Aurich, presented by District Administrator Olaf Meinen on behalf of the Federal President. This honor recognizes more than thirty years of Alberts' tireless commitment to politics, society and culture. ON Online reports that District Administrator Meinen particularly emphasized Alberts' role as ambassador for East Frisia and his stance on regionality.

Reiner Alberts has made a lasting contribution with his commitment to the Aurich-Wittmund workshops for people with disabilities - today known as Lebenshilfe Aurich-Wittmund Holding. Thanks to his commitment, this institution grew into an important social network that offers work, education, living space and meetings for over 1,000 people. What is particularly noteworthy is that Alberts was one of the pillars of this initiative for over 30 years. He also proved to be an active part of the political landscape by organizing parliamentary evenings in Hanover and Berlin.

The legacy of a committed person

Alberts’ commitment goes far beyond the workshops. He initiated the mill pool and saved historic mills that are of great importance to the region. He is also the author of a comprehensive documentation about the end of the war in East Frisia, which offers valuable historical insights. The importance of his life's work was also recognized by Aurich's mayor Horst Feddermann, who spoke positively about Alberts' influence on the city's history.

In a moving speech, Alberts thanked the guests and looked back on an eventful year. A particular suggestion came up to name a street on the grounds of the Aurich Blücherkaserne after his father Heinrich Alberts. Heinrich Alberts played a significant role in the negotiations that prevented Aurich from being attacked by Allies in May 1945. This honor would not only celebrate the achievements of the Alberts family, but also keep a piece of history alive.

Cultural diversity and enjoyment

In addition to the political and cultural merits, the region also has culinary highlights that bring people together. If you like to experiment, you should take a look at using balsamic vinegar in the kitchen. Cookindocs emphasizes that balsamic vinegar can not only be used in salads, but can also be used as an unusual garnish on ice cream. Whether over vanilla ice cream or in combination with fruit – the sweet and sour taste adds that certain something.

In summary, it can be said that Reiner Alberts not only has an impressive lifetime achievement behind him, but also serves as an example of commitment and passion in the East Frisia region. His work, both social and cultural, has left a lasting mark and will certainly inspire many generations to come.
