New PlusBus starts in Wittmund: Connect with Friedeburg and Harlesiel!

From January 1, 2026, the residents of Wittmund can look forward to two new “PlusBus” lines. With the introduction of lines 311 and 343, the public transport network in the region will be significantly expanded. Line 311 connects Wittmund with Friedeburg and stops in Leerhafe and Reepsholt. Line 343 runs from Wittmund to Harlesiel, with stops in Nenndorf, Berdum, Altfunnixsiel and Carolinensiel also planned. These new connections complement the existing line 480, which serves Aurich, Wittmund and Jever every hour. This reports NWZonline.

The new PlusBus lines are characterized by high frequency and adhere to a fixed timetable, which also applies outside of peak times, in the evenings and on weekends. These continuous connections not only offer passengers considerable added value, but also increased mobility and comfort in the East Frisia region, as the transport companies in their presentation of VEJ bus point out. The PlusBus lines also apply to the use of the VEJ tariff, which means that the Deutschlandticket and the Jugendticket can also be used.

Extensions and integration

Another exciting aspect is the announced expansion of the PlusBus network. Esens and Holtriem are to be integrated in autumn 2026, which will further improve connections in the region. These measures not only contribute to improving the quality of life, but are also a contribution to social justice, as political actors emphasize. Local public transport is therefore considered an essential part of municipal services of general interest.

Nevertheless, there are also critical voices: The CDU parliamentary group expresses concerns about the long-term utilization of the buses and calls for close monitoring of their use. This skepticism could play an important role in future planning and financing, because solid utilization is of central importance for the sustainable functionality of the offer.

Timetables and information

Timetables for the new lines and further details are available on the Wittmund district website and in various mobility apps. Interested citizens can get more information and plan their trip there. The mobile connection to trains and other bus lines is seen as particularly advantageous and is a key feature of PlusBus offers. This once again underlines the regions' strategy to optimize public transport and make it accessible to everyone, as also shown on the website Aurich district is to be read.
