A new wind at ASV Hamm: interim coach Huesmann before the Aurich game!

The situation at ASV Hamm-Westfalen is anything but easy. After a turbulent start to the season, the club has now parted ways with coach Jörn-Uwe Lommel. The decision came after a defeat against VfL Eintracht Hagen, where Hamm lost 21:26. This was the last straw after the problems in the table had already become apparent. The ASV is currently in 15th place in the 2nd Handball Bundesliga with 26:36 points and is only ahead of the Eulen Ludwigshafen and the relegation zone due to a better goal difference. wa.de reports on the situation.

The restructuring of the coaching staff will now be taken over by an interim trio. Fabian Huesmann, who is also captain of the team, as well as the sporting director Micky Reiners and managing director Christoph Reichenberger are responsible for the preparation for the upcoming game against OHV Aurich. Particular attention is paid to the fact that Huesmann himself cannot be active on the field due to an injury, but was nevertheless prepared for the separation from Lommel. In the remaining training sessions, Huesmann does not intend to make any fundamental changes in order to make the team as stable as possible.

Change of coach and search for a successor

The rumor mill is abuzz about possible successors to Lommel, but at the moment the options are rather slim. Stefan Just, a former Hamm player and interim coach, is already considered out of the running. The same applies to Stefan Neff and Johannes Wohlrab, whose commitment is also considered unlikely. Managing director Markus Fuchs has not yet commented on these speculations and emphasized the need for careful discussions to find the best solution for the club. However, he ruled out Huesmann as a permanent solution because he is necessary as a player to turn things around.

However, the club management has one goal clearly in mind: to present a new coach by the weekend without games after the upcoming duel with Aurich in order to give him enough time to prepare. However, hopes of staying in the league seem to be dwindling in these turbulent times.

A look into the future

In view of the current trends, Hamm is certain to be relegated to the second division - that is a fact that was sealed just weeks after the last matchday. A controversial defeat finally put the club under pressure. Managing director Markus Fuchs described this phase as “over and done with” and hopes that he will no longer have to experience a “week-long hangover” in the future.
ASV will now have to focus on the remaining games to make the most of the current challenging situation.

The next game is against TuS N-Lübbecke, followed by other important games, including a possible final against TuSEM Essen to stay in the league. The ASV fans are keeping their fingers crossed for the interim trio and the team so that perhaps a turnaround can still be achieved - despite all the adversities.
