Christmas magic in Aurich: Thekla and Sophia see the light of day!
A very special event brightened up the Christmas days in the Aurich district! On December 24, 2023, two little miracles saw the light of day in the obstetrics department of the Ubbo Emmius Clinic (UEK) Aurich. The newborns are called Thekla Saathoff and Sophia Blümel and were accompanied by a dedicated team of midwives and doctors. The birth on Christmas Eve is perceived by parents and the hospital team as emotional and symbolic, which makes this day special for the families, reports NWZ Online.
Thekla Saathoff was born at 3:56 p.m., weighs 3,505 grams and measures an impressive 54 centimeters. Her parents, Lisa and Tobias Saathoff from Zetel, are looking forward to getting to know their older siblings, Lönne and Thea. Midwife Michelle Seifert and the medical service led by Emirhan Eskicioglu were involved in the birth.
Sophia Blümel was born very early in the morning, at 7:05 a.m. Her parents, Marie and Dennis Blümel, were also happy about a healthy girl. Sophia's birth was lovingly accompanied by midwife Carola Frerichs, trainee midwife Mareike Fass and assistant doctor Nele Buß. This year too, the UEK Aurich team showed a lot of heart in caring for the parents and their babies, reports Anevita.
A strong team for the little ones
The obstetric department at the UEK Aurich is staffed around the clock on public holidays to ensure the best possible medical care. Dr. Helmut Reinhold, the head physician at the women's clinic, emphasizes the interdepartmental collaboration, which helps to ensure a high quality of care. This collaboration is also examined in a variety of studies that show how important support from the medical team is to mothers' birth experience.
A recent study published in the journal BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth shows that women who give birth without medical intervention have the highest satisfaction with their birth experience. This highlights the importance of emotional support and a sense of security during the birth process. In the study, 852 mothers were asked about their experiences after giving birth, with a particular focus on participatory and safe obstetric practices, as the University of Cologne explains: University of Cologne.
The emotionally charged births at Christmas strengthen the connection between newborns and their families and symbolize new beginnings and hope. In this sense, it is not just about medical care, but also about creating an emotional framework for the parents that gives them support and trust in these first, special moments.
