Braunschweig: New parking tickets cause indignation among drivers!
In Braunschweig, a new regulation is causing discussions among drivers. On November 4th, the city council decided to introduce long-term parking tickets for the Wallring zone. This measure aims to meet the needs of working people, traders and regular parkers in the city center. The new parking offers are intended to act as a useful supplement to the existing 24-hour tickets and respond to the lack of public parking garages in the wall areas.
Two new ticket variants will be available for sale from December: a seven-day parking permit for 29 euros and a 30-day ticket for 79 euros. These tickets are valid from the date of purchase, including Sundays and public holidays. Given the circumstances that the normal parking ticket machines in the city center are not suitable for the higher amounts, the tickets are sold exclusively via mobile phone parking. In addition, a possible service fee of up to 15 percent may apply depending on the provider. Maximum prices are 33.35 euros for the seven-day ticket and 90.85 euros for the 30-day ticket.
Reactions to the new parking fees
Drivers' reactions to the new regulations are predominantly negative. Many people talk about it as a “rip-off” because the price of the 30-day ticket is almost the same as the monthly rental price for a permanent parking space in the city center. The discussion about free parking in the city is gaining momentum as more and more citizens are annoyed about the expensive parking options.
The city council expects these new offers to ease the parking situation in the city center. But drivers seem to have a different perspective on this issue. The city administration has clearly not shown a good understanding of the needs of its citizens, otherwise the discontent would not be so great.
It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and whether the new long-term parking offers will really bring about the hoped-for improvement. For many, parking in the city center remains a costly affair, and the discussions about parking management in Braunschweig are far from over.
