Braunschweig is becoming a start-up hotspot: 10 promising startups!

In an exciting development, the jury of the QIMP Hightech Incubator has selected seven promising spin-offs from the Technical University of Braunschweig, which will now be supported with funding. This decision marks the start of new state funding for founders, which aims to put scientific innovations into practice. How TU Braunschweig reports, the QIMP will support up to 30 deep tech startups in the region with an impressive eight million euros by 2028.

The funding program focuses in particular on exciting areas such as quantum technologies, information technology, mobility and production technology. The challenges here are great, because the road to market readiness for technologies in these areas is often long and rocky. Such innovative support is necessary because the ideas behind startups often come from basic research and require expensive infrastructure. The QIMP High-Tech Incubator, which is housed in the former Rollei factory in Braunschweig, offers startups modern laboratory space and workshops to put their ideas into practice.

The selected startups

The ten companies selected include the seven spin-offs from the Technical University of Braunschweig:

  • Aeon Robotics GmbH – humanoide Robotersysteme mit KI-gestützten Greifern.
  • Gaia Aerospace GmbH – wiederverwendbares AirLaunch-System für Mikro- und Nanosatelliten.
  • LBR Manufacturing GmbH i.G. – kompakte Fräsen für industrielle Fertigung.
  • Synara Technologies GmbH – photonische KI-Prozessoren mit hoher Energieeffizienz.
  • Terametro GmbH – Messinstrumente für elektromagnetische Signale.
  • Sentics GmbH – KI-gestützte Software für Arbeitssicherheit in Echtzeit.
  • Recycling Fabrik GmbH – Recycling von Kunststoffabfällen zu 3D-Druck-Filament.
  • CDO2 Germany UG – Echtzeit-Imaging in EV-Batterien.
  • QB-Innovation GmbH – quantenbasierte Sensoren für Druck, Temperatur und Gaszusammensetzung.
  • Twin Photonics GmbH – chipbasierte Quellen für verschränkte Photonenpaare.

Infrastructure and support

The incubator's equipment is tailored to the specific needs of deep tech startups. How QVLS emphasizes, the startups benefit from a comprehensive repertoire of modern infrastructure. These include optical tables, lasers of different wavelengths, a clean room tent and vacuum pumps. This facilitator offers startups the opportunity to develop prototypes and advance them to market-ready demonstrations.

The close connection to leading research institutions such as the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt and the Leibniz University of Hannover brings additional advantages. In addition, the project is supported by a strong network of regional and national actors, including the Innovation Society of the TU Braunschweig (iTUBS).

Support and challenges

The funding is of great importance for the selected companies, as startups are often faced with the challenge of closing financial gaps that hinder their growth. GEWI points out that for project financing it is crucial to define the basic parameters at an early stage. The best way to apply for funding should be in a timely manner, as processing times can take several months.
