New hope: Jäkel strengthens Eintracht Braunschweig!
Eintracht Braunschweig is causing a stir again in the summer transfer period. New signing Mehmet Can Aydin was presented on July 2nd, and this is just the first of four new additions for the coming season. Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, Lino Tempelmann and Lukas Frenkert also join the team. The focus is particularly on 24-year-old Frederik Jäkel, who is moving from RB Leipzig to Eintracht Braunschweig. This transfer was officially confirmed by both clubs on Friday and is eagerly awaited, not least because of Jäkel's injury history, which has severely affected his playing time in recent years.
Jäkel comes on loan for 12 months, with a purchase option for 2026. Before the training camp in St. Johann, he and his new teammates will travel to Austria on July 4th. Sports director Benjamin Kessel sees Jäkel as a robust and fast central defender who has strength in duels and vertical solutions in the game. “We have a good hand with this transfer,” said Kessel.
A change in the defense area
The signing of the central defender is particularly important as Eintracht Braunschweig recently had three departures in defense: Ermin Bicakcic, Robert Ivanov and Paul Jaeckel have left the club. Jäkel, who has been on loan to SV Elversberg for the past two years, also had to recover from a torn cruciate ligament in February 2022 and only played one minute in the second division last season. The club's hope now lies in Jäkel staying fit and being able to exploit his full potential under coach Heiner Backhaus.
Jäkel intends to bring his strengths and skills to the new team. The player has extended his contract with RB Leipzig until 2027. But the changeable course of his career, which has even included four loan spells, shows that he really wants to take the next step.
A promising new beginning
Eintracht is facing an exciting season and the new additions bring a breath of fresh air to the team. Jäkel, Aydin, Hoffmann, Tempelmann and Frenkert could play crucial roles in the BTSV squad. Local fans hope that the team will come together quickly after the upheaval and benefit from these transfers in the new season.
Overall, it remains to be seen how Jäkel and his new teammates will accept the challenge, but the signs point to a new beginning and renewed competitiveness for Eintracht Braunschweig.
