Summer holidays in Lower Saxony: Germany ticket blocked for students!
The summer holidays in Lower Saxony are just around the corner, and for many students in Braunschweig this means important information: the Deutschlandticket, which otherwise gives them access to buses and trains, will be deactivated during the holidays. Loud news38.de This regulation also applies to the last two school days, July 1st and 2nd.
In concrete terms, this means that students with a Germany ticket, which is valid nationwide, cannot access their usual mobility during the holidays. The chip card, which is required for use, shows the note “invalid” during checks. Some users express dissatisfaction with this rule, while others find it normal.
Alternatives for the summer holidays
Despite this restriction, students do not have to “suffer” in their apartment. An interesting alternative is the U21 leisure card or the U21 summer holiday card for Lower Saxony, which is valid for 23.70 euros over a period of six weeks. This means students can stay mobile during the summer holidays and plan exciting excursions.
However, there is a positive outlook for the coming school year 2024/2025: Eligible students will receive a collective student season ticket as a Germany ticket. This ensures that young passengers are fully mobile even outside of the holidays. This agreement was reached between several cities, including Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Wolfsburg, as well as the districts of Gifhorn, Goslar and Helmstedt. The ticket is issued as a chip card and allows use on local public transport around the clock, including weekends and public holidays - with the exception of the summer holidays, of course. This regulation also applies to future school years if there is a right to student transport.
New student and trainee ticket in focus
Speaking of mobility – Lower Saxony has also introduced a new regional student and trainee ticket, which is intended for school students, trainees and those doing voluntary service. Loud mw.niedersachsen.de This ticket will cost a maximum of 30 euros per month as an annual subscription. According to the new requirements, mobility for students and trainees in Lower Saxony will be significantly improved not only during school hours, but also during the holidays. A good hand for the future of the young generation!
