New Hölty-Gymnasium in Hambühren: an educational offensive started!

On June 26, 2025, a new chapter in education was opened in Hambühren: the Hölty-Gymnasium celebrated its official opening. The project, which has devoured a total of 52 million euros from the district budget, is not only a new building, but also a symbol for a new educational approach. Mayor Carsten Kranz took the opportunity to observe the construction progress from the town hall and to speak to the inauguration ceremony.

This celebration was festively designed and attracted numerous guests, including members of the district council, headmaster and members of the local council. The merits of Monika Nerreter, the former head of the high school, were particularly emphasized in the speeches. The event was musically framed by the Hölty Bigband, which created a cheerful atmosphere with its sounds.

the modern campus

The new Hölty high school is located on a spacious property of 3.2 hectares in Hambühren and only sprays in front of modern amenities. The existing building remains available on a total of 10,000 square meters here. The new building was built according to the latest educational standards and offers a cafeteria with 200 seats, a multifunctional sports hall and sufficient bicycle parking spaces. Headmaster Stefan Lahme pointed out that the main building was designed as a magnificent building with open learning landscapes, in which the facade proudly shows the heraldic animal of the school, a peacock.

As part of the opening address, wreath cited the famous Nelson Mandela: "Education is the most powerful weapon with which you can change the world." This message stands not only for the philosophy of the new educational institution, but also for the ambitions that are followed here.

A look at the educational offer

The Hölty-Gymnasium is more than just a place of learning; It is a space for comprehensive personal education. While the last Abitur examination in the old building in Celle is still planned for 2028, the new students from the 5th grade are welcomed with a wide range of subjects and many leisure activities. So the students have the opportunity to choose between different foreign languages that range from English in 5th grade to optional third parties such as Russian from grade 8.

In addition to the regular subjects, there are numerous working groups that enrich school life: from "vocalini" to art workshops and robotics to topics such as "Queer & Friends" and naturally, the diverse interests of the students are covered. There is also a structured afternoon care for born 5 and 6, which is offered from Monday to Thursday. So there is no room for boredom, and the students can discover and develop their individual talents.

Education as an investment in the future

The importance of such educational institutions goes beyond the direct benefit for the students. In view of the increasing need for school places and the stable return prospects of investments in school properties, it can be seen that educational institutions are not only socially relevant, but also financially worthwhile for investors such as pension funds. The PWC study on investing in educational institutions emphasizes how important school buildings are as sustainable and socially significant investment. Headmaster Stefan Lahme was optimistic about the future-oriented possibilities that the new Hölty high school can offer to the students and the entire community.

Insum, the start of the Hölty-Gymnasium in Hambühren is not only a reason to celebrate, but also a step towards an innovative and future-oriented education that opens up new perspectives in the region.
