Crime development in view

All of these incidents raise the question of what security is like in general in Germany. The police crime statistics (PKS) from the Federal Criminal Police Office show that crime fell by 1.7% to around 5.84 million cases in 2024. Particularly striking: The decline is mainly due to decreasing cannabis offenses, which have been influenced by partial legalization since April 2024. However, there is a feeling of concern among the population as crimes that affect people's sense of security are on the rise. Statista points out that in recent years certain cities, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, have recorded higher crime rates. The likelihood of becoming a victim of crime is also higher in city states such as Bremen or Hamburg.

While the clearance rate was 58% in 2024, the development of suspects shows a slight decline. Nevertheless, the question remains as to how communities like Wietzenbruch can deal with these challenges. Apparently, citizens' moral courage is required to take a stand against vandalism and other forms of crime.
