Hands-on mathematics: Experience exhibition inspires schools!

The traveling exhibition “Hands-on Mathematics” is currently exciting in the Northwest German Museum for Industrial Culture, more precisely in the needle-setting workshop. Until Sunday, June 29th, school classes in grades three to eight have the opportunity to engage with mathematics in a playful way. This extraordinary initiative has enjoyed great response from schools in the region Delmenhorst reported.

The exhibition includes an impressive 30 interactive experiments that aim to introduce young visitors to the joy of science. The project is supported by personalities such as Carsten Jöhnk, the museum director, and other sponsors from the Delmenhorst University Society and the Delmenhorst-Burggraf Lions Club.

Invitation to families and groups

The last opportunity for families and groups to visit the exhibition without prior registration is Sunday, June 29th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is two euros and also includes the permanent exhibition in the Nordwolle Museum. If you are interested, you can also register by calling (04221) 99-1697.

The aim of the traveling exhibition is clear: to give students a playful approach to mathematics. Not only is theoretical knowledge imparted, but emphasis is also placed on action, concentration, acting, thinking and of course a lot of enjoyment.

Experience mathematics in a playful way

The experiments on display are designed to arouse curiosity and encourage participation. This means the little puzzlers can try out various math experiments themselves. The Mini-Mathematikum is also offered, a hands-on exhibition especially for the youngest visitors aged 3 to 8 years. Here the children have the opportunity to discover numbers, shapes and patterns in a playful way by, among other things, assembling a ball pyramid on a puzzle table or arranging colorful squares.

A highlight is the mirror house, where children can look at themselves from all sides. The exhibition demonstrates that the direct route is not always the fastest, and numerous other mathematical experiments that are specifically tailored to this age group are available to the little explorers.

Finally, it's also worth taking a look beyond the boundaries of the exhibition: the Mathematicum in Giessen has over 170 experiments for the entire family, from giant soap bubbles to building a Leonardo bridge. It's an excellent stop for families for a few hours of fun and learning. The mini-mathematics center there is dedicated to little ones under 8 years of age, while older children and adults also get their money's worth. Rheinmain4Family particularly emphasizes that the exhibition is open every day of the year and offers numerous facilities such as changing tables and a family-friendly cafeteria.

A visit to the traveling exhibition in Delmenhorst or a trip to Gießen are ideal opportunities to engage with the world of mathematics in a playful way and have a lot of fun!
