Christmas house shines again: remembering Martina Borchart!

In a heart-touching gesture of remembrance and community, the Delmenhorst Christmas House is about to open. Sven Borchart, teaming up with his stepson and brother-in-law, is reviving the festive illuminations, which include over 60,000 lights, after a year-long break. The reason for this long absence is tragic: Borchart's wife, Martina, died just a few days before Christmas Eve 2022. Her memory will be particularly honored this year, as the family has transformed their home into a sea of lights for almost 25 years. Weser-Kurier reports that the traditional illumination will be switched on on the first Advent, December 2nd, 2023, and should shine until New Year's Eve.

Preparations are already in full swing. Despite his knee prosthesis and the associated physical limitations, Sven Borchart has already invested 20 hours of work in the project. Over 80 hours of construction work are planned, plus countless kilometers of cables and hundreds of sockets to make the illumination shine. On St. Nicholas Day and the first Advent, visitors can look forward to warm drinks - a nice gesture of hospitality during this contemplative time.

A ray of hope for the community

Borchart pays particular attention to supporting measures for children in need. The proceeds from the Christmas house will be donated to the therapeutic riding at the school on Karlstrasse in 2024. Last year, despite the forced break, 2,000 euros were raised, and in 2023 even 3,000 euros were raised, which were also used for a good cause. The Borchart family wants to continue the tradition of giving this year and hopes to inspire their visitors to follow their example. The illumination not only becomes a feast for the eyes, but also a source of support for those in need in the region. Delmenews

With their Christmas house, the Borcharts have created an institution that is an integral part of the city. On the first Advent, up to 1,000 visitors are expected to become part of this festive celebration with all their senses and perhaps feel the light of memory that shines in each of the 60,000 lights.

Organizational aspects and traffic management

In order to accommodate the expected number of visitors and avoid traffic chaos, Brechtstrasse will be declared a residential street during the Christmas period. This means visitors can enjoy the magical ambience without having to worry about parking. The daily opening hours from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. also ensure that the attraction remains accessible to everyone until the end of 2023.

In the midst of all these preparations, Sven Borchart is happy to let the light shine again not only for himself, but especially for Martina, who accompanied his journey. In a time that is often hectic and demanding, the Christmas House is a reminder that it is the small gestures of giving and connection that bring us all together.
