Alcohol accidents and vandalism: Leer police warn of risks!
On November 16, 2025, a remarkable traffic accident occurred in Westoverledingen. A 20-year-old driver drove his vehicle off the road on Marderstrasse around 7 a.m. and crashed into a ditch. Fortunately, both the driver and his 28-year-old passenger were uninjured. However, the car had to be towed away and the driver, who was behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level of 0.6 per mille at the time of the accident, is now facing criminal proceedings. This adds to a worrying statistic: Loud Statista Alcohol-related traffic accidents are a serious problem in Germany.
On the same day, an incident occurred in Weener between 6:20 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The side window of an undamaged VW Golf was smashed in the parking lot of a nursing home on Mühlenstrasse. Whether this was a deliberate act or an attempted theft remains unclear. The police are asking possible witnesses to come forward to shed light on the matter.
Damage and investigations
But the incidents are not limited to traffic accidents. In Leer, from November 12th to 13th, 2025, the external facade of a company building on Große Roßbergstrasse was damaged. A maneuvering vehicle caused the damage while the person responsible was driving away from the scene of the accident. In this case, too, the Leer police are asking for information that could help clarify the matter.
The Leer/Emden police station has also announced that the press office will not be staffed on November 18th. In urgent cases, you are advised to contact the guard. The press office will be available again from November 19th.
Given the figures for alcohol-related accidents in Germany, which are available from 1995 to 2024, it is time to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. It is up to each individual to demonstrate their good skills in traffic and prevent dangerous situations.
