Salary secrets at Rossmann: This is how much people in Lower Saxony earn!

There is exciting news from Lower Saxony in the world of drugstores. The RTL program “What does Germany deserve?” took a close look at the salary structure at Rossmann. With over 2,300 branches and more than 40,000 employees, Rossmann is not only the second largest drugstore chain in Germany, but also has a lot to offer when it comes to pay. Human resources manager Stefan Sander gave interesting insights into the salaries paid in the company. For example, trainees earn 1,300 euros gross per month, while salespeople receive around 3,500 euros. If you want to go straight into branch management, you can even earn up to 5,600 euros gross and do a decent business with it.

But what does that say about employee satisfaction? The employee Chantal, 42 years old, has been working as a product manager in the central warehouse in Burgwedel for 18 years and receives 5,380 euros gross. Her colleague Anja, 47, is new to the company and earns 3,300 euros gross as an order picker. While Cordula, who has also been there for ten years, finds the payout to be appropriate, Anja is a little dissatisfied and thinks that sometimes it could be more. This shows that job satisfaction does not only depend on the salary, but also on the team and the way they treat each other, which is of great importance in the industry.

Rossmann in focus

In the background is the history of Dirk Rossmann GmbH, which was founded on March 17, 1972 in Hanover with the first drugstore discount market, then called the “Market for Drugstore Goods”. Four years later there were already 20 stores and within ten years the number grew to 100 branches, which helped Rossmann become market leader in the north. After reunification, the company expanded into eastern Germany and opened 120 new stores within two years. Rossmann is also active internationally, with branches in countries such as Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Türkiye.

The competition with dm is currently getting stronger, especially after the Schlecker bankruptcy. Both companies are fighting for market and price leadership, with Rossmann pursuing an offensive campaign policy and campaigning for the organic business and the Alnatura brand. Future plans also include expanding the online business, which has not yet made a significant contribution to sales.

Market development and wages

A look at the salary development shows that the standard monthly salary for full-time employees in retail is currently over 3,100 euros. The industry has provided for an annual payment of 13.25 standard salaries and bonuses for overtime. The average monthly salary in April 2024 was 3,628 euros, with the average gross hourly earnings being 22.26 euros. Despite an inflation rate of 25.3% between 2014 and 2024, real wages increased by 5.1%. A positive aspect that the industry should continue to keep an eye on, especially with regard to the competitiveness and attractiveness of jobs in retail.

In summary, Rossmann is not only an important player in the market, but also offers an exciting working environment with attractive salary opportunities. The focus is on employees, and developments indicate that the drugstore chain will continue to grow in the future.
