Traffic lights on B188: full closures and diversions from July 7th!
From Monday, July 7th, there will be a lot going on on the B188 in the Gifhorn district. Road users must prepare for disruptions in the intersection area with the L289, where a new traffic light is being installed. This reports Celle press. The intersection area has proven to be a hotspot for accidents in the past, so the structural adjustments are intended to increase safety standards.
As part of this measure, not only will the traffic lights be installed, but the B188 will also be renewed. This includes modernizing the roadway, the storm sewer and the cycle path. But that has its price: the project will cost around 850,000 euros, financed by the Federal Republic of Germany and the state of Lower Saxony. The State Authority for Road Construction and Transport (NLStBV) asks all road users for understanding and special attention in the work area.
Closures and diversions
The junction of the L289 towards Westerbeck will be closed during construction work, which means that diversions will have to be set up via Dannenbüttel and Triangel. On the B188 there will initially be single-lane traffic with construction site traffic lights. From August 29th to September 1st the area will be completely closed in order to install the asphalt surface. There is also a diversion route here that leads via Westerbecker Straße and Triangel.
Road safety is always a big issue in Germany. As the DGUV reports, the numbers regarding traffic accidents are worrying, especially in busy areas. In 2021, a total of 2,569 people were killed in traffic in our country and over 327,000 were injured. It is therefore even more important to create safe traffic conditions, especially in junctions that are considered dangerous.
The new traffic lights at the Sassenburg-Westerbeck junction were installed on the recommendation of the Traffic Accident Commission after accidents continued to occur despite the stop sign. This project could therefore prove to be a game-changer in improving road safety on this busy route.
A look into the future
The work is expected to be completed by September, weather permitting. The construction work on the B188 is not only necessary, it is also an expression of a growing awareness of road safety. We all have to have a good hand and accept the current restrictions in order to ultimately benefit from a safer road.
For those who commute every day or have family obligations, the new traffic lights could also reduce stress in traffic. We can only hope that the diversions go smoothly and the measures are completed without significant delays.
Overall, the construction of the traffic lights on the B188 is a step in the right direction. So, dear readers, let's summarize: From July 7th, things will get busy here - so pay close attention to the signs and detours!
