The move to a more flexible system benefits everyone who cares for their relatives in need of care. Many spouses or relatives are there for their loved ones every day, but they also need a break every now and then. Previously, preventive care was limited to six weeks per year. In the future, caring relatives will be allowed to increase their entitlement to preventive care to up to eight weeks per year. And the best thing about it: The right to preventive care exists from care level 2 without a minimum care period, which represents an enormous relief for many.
Changes in detail
But what exactly will change from summer onwards? From July 1, 2025, the summary of the benefit amounts for preventative care and short-term care will come into force with a total amount of 3,539 euros, which is according to social insurance-competent.de enables flexible use of the amount. Costs incurred for the first half of 2025 will be offset against the new annual amount. In addition, the annual benefit amount for preventative care will be increased to 1,685 euros, while short-term care will increase from 1,774 euros to 1,854 euros. In practice, this means that up to 56 days per calendar year can usually be used for short-term care, which is particularly advantageous for caring relatives who are considering vacation or illness.
