Wilscher comparison flying 2025: Gifhorn's winner in the air!

June 16, 2025 will go down in the history books of aviation sports. In Wilsche, in the middle of the picturesque Lüneburg Heath, an important comparison flight took place, which attracted around 45 gliders. The weather conditions were a real challenge with wind and changeable thermals, and there were also occasional showers at times. With such demanding planning, the participants showed impressive performances, which resulted in a total of around 15,000 kilometers flown during the four successful days of flying. WAZ Online reports on the exciting experiences of this event.

Helge Liebertz from LSV Gifhorn stood out among the participants. With his ASH 25 he achieved an impressive speed of 114 km/h over a distance of 208 km. Wagner and Knoblich from Gifhorn also won the club class, reaching a speed of 57.41 km/h with their DG 505. Further placings in this category went to Sascha Dähne and Stefan Schumann from FC Bronkow, whereby the club community once again demonstrated its strength.

Winner and overall winner

There were also notable results in the open class. Liebertz and Waibel flew their ASH 25E over 164 km at an average speed of 93.49 km/h. Meinecke and Nitt from VfL Südheide and Michael Liebisch from LSG-Goslar joined the top places. At the end of the event, the overall winners were announced: In the club class, Stefan Schumann was celebrated on the Jantar Std. 3, while the open class was dominated by Meinecke and Nitt in the duo discus.

A warm welcome and a strong community

The event was organized by LSV Gifhorn, whose club chairman Volker Opitz and the local mayor Uwe Weimann warmly welcomed the participants. The positive atmosphere was supported by daily weather forecasts from the “Weather Witch and Weather Uncle” team and supplemented by an informative “diary” on the club website, which documented the weather situation, route choice and tactics.

But the aviation club didn't just shine in the competition. After the traditional kale meal, a delicious asparagus menu was served, which brought the members of LSV Gifhorn together in a friendly atmosphere. Over 150 participants enjoyed the banquet and the cheerful atmosphere, while the tables were festively decorated with fresh tulips. The organizing team, led by Volker and Aylin, is already planning the next joint event in the summer. It was truly a real treat as the clubhouse was filled to capacity! LSV Gifhorn documents this in detail in its reports.

A new path in air sports

The events in Wilsche are part of an exciting time for German aviation. A lot has happened since the German Air Sports Association (LUVD) was founded. The new structure, which was decided on November 8, 2023, is intended to combine the interests of over 140,000 aviation athletes from all sports. With Hans Schwägerl as president and a strong team at his side, the association strives for effective representation in politics and the public. The members should have the opportunity to have their voices heard and to actively participate in shaping air sports, as DSV reports.

We now look to the future: the next competition will take place next year at FC Bronkow in Brandenburg. The annual change between Gifhorn and Bronkow provides a breath of fresh air and new challenges in air sports.
