Göttingen lends a hand: charity gala and pea soup against loneliness!
In Götingen, an important cause is being promoted with great commitment: “No one should be lonely”. Under this motto, Tageblatt Christmas Aid is launching various events to help people in need in the region. The chairman of the KSES, Wolfgang Stoffel, makes it clear how important this help is, especially for those who do not find sufficient support in the social network. With 128,000 euros collected in donations last year, the initiators show that it can be done - and not without reason.
The way for this year's commitment has already been paved, as the dates for three major events have been set. On November 8th there will be a traditional pea soup dinner at the Gänseliesel at the Old Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition, the charity gala will take place on November 22nd at the Deutsches Theater Göttingen, which will feature the title “Originell of love”. The start here is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Advance ticket sales start tomorrow, September 1st, with ticket prices of 40 and 60 euros.
Donate for a good cause
Last year around 500 guests took part in the gala, which raised over 27,000 euros for the good cause. So it's no wonder that expectations are high this year. As always, the donations collected will be forwarded to the city's advice centers and will benefit those in need.
Another highlight in the annual calendar is the Open Christmas Eve, which will take place on December 24th in the town hall. This event aims to bring together people who are alone on this special evening. Here we not only celebrate together, but also convey a feeling of community.
Recognize loneliness as a challenge
Loneliness is a current issue and represents a real social challenge. Studies show that loneliness is more than just an individual feeling, but is closely interwoven with social structures. Lonely people participate less actively in social and political life and can suffer serious health consequences. As bpb.de describes, loneliness can even undermine trust in democratic institutions.
Especially in times of social changes and crises such as the pandemic, action is required to counteract growing loneliness among the population. From community activities to public spaces that create encounters, approaches are needed to make a difference.
And this is exactly where the Tageblatt Christmas aid comes in. The income from such events, which bring people together, is intended to build structures that will combat loneliness in the future.
So if you want to do something for yourself and the community, you should mark the upcoming dates in red on your calendar. Together you can not only help, but also strengthen the feeling of togetherness - the best way to beat loneliness!
