Göttingen Schützenfest 2025: A festival full of tradition and music!
The wait is over! From June 19th to 23rd, 2025, the 633rd Göttingen Schützenfest will take place with a fresh concept in the parking lot at the Jahnstadion. The festival officially opened today and the joy among the approximately 200 guests was palpable. A musical highlight was provided by the Adebar fire brigade band, which created a great atmosphere with traditional marches and well-known melodies such as “The Lion sleeps tonight” and “Sweet Caroline”. Emilia Fasig and Daniela Seliger from Kassel were thrilled by the live music and the exuberant atmosphere.
The chairman of the Göttingen district shooting association, Volker Kasper, was optimistic and hoped for a higher number of visitors than in recent years. He is particularly excited about the big parade on Sunday, in which shooters will parade through the city in magnificent robes. Mayor Petra Broistedt and Oberschaffer André Faulhaber opened the festival and highlighted the close connection between Schützen and the city.
A celebration for everyone
The event attracts with a colorful program that began on Thursday evening with a musical revue under the motto “Now the clock strikes 13” by the Deutsches Theater and Junge Theater Göttingen. Family Day is celebrated on Friday, followed by a big dance and pop party on Saturday evening. The shooting festival ends on Monday with a traditional shooting breakfast that can accommodate up to 800 people. The special highlight? Admission to all events is free of charge.
Another highlight are the numerous rides, including bumper cars, polyp and Ferris wheel, which provide entertainment. And if you fancy something culinary, you can try the new burger creation from “Malz-Wirt” Charles Recke. Irmgard Schönbach, the first deputy chief conductor in 633 years, presented the new shooting festival concept together with other responsible people. “This year the festival really gets off to a flying start,” announced Oberschaffer Faulhaber.
Traditions with a future
Shooting festivals have a long tradition in Germany. From their origins in the Middle Ages, when archers were responsible for keeping communities safe, to today's celebrations, they are an important part of the culture. The hoped-for large audience response will be supported by the willing participation of numerous shooting clubs from the region. After the opening, the riflemen and women marched with four bands to the festival area at the Jahnstadion, where an open commers including the BSG royal proclamation took place, accompanied by the Werra Valley musicians.
