Kunstverein Göttingen: Marjolijn Dijkman and the changing world!
There is currently a lot to discover in Göttingen: The new exhibition “Between the Lines” by the Dutch artist Marjolijn Dijkman opened its doors on October 12th, 2025 and is waiting until December 7th, 2025 with an exciting combination of art and research. This event takes place in the Kunstverein Göttingen, in the Old Town Hall, 1st floor, and attracts art lovers every day from Tuesday to Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
But what makes Dijkman's exhibition so special? She combines artistic creation with investigations into real territories around the world, including the Verdun battlefield and rare earth deposits in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The exhibition also gives the waters of Göttingen a new light. The dynamic changes in these regions are presented through spatial, walk-in arrangements, metal castings, photographs and film contributions. “It's all about depicting upheavals and the changing nature of the earth,” explains Dijkman, who defines herself as a research-based, multidisciplinary artist.
Art, Science and the Anthropocene
Marjolijn Dijkman is known for her ability to explore intersections between art and other research areas. Not only aesthetic aspects are important in her work, but also the socio-political and ecological issues, which she brings to the fore through walk-in installations. Her projects are strongly process-based and range from dazzling installations to discursive events and publications. Her art moves in the area of tension between conceptual art and critical geography, which becomes all the more clear through her critical reflection on the conditions of the Anthropocene.
In this context, Dijkman is part of a broader discussion about the Anthropocene, which has also received a wide range of attention in art studies since it was first conceptualized by Paul J. Crutzen and Eugene F. Stoermer in 2000. The Anthropocene describes the relationship between humans and the environment, which is characterized by profound changes ( Art history ).
A colorful supporting program
The exhibition not only offers the opportunity to marvel at Dijkman's impressive works. The event began on October 11th with a vernissage, which was accompanied by a welcome speech by Helmut Wenzel and an introduction by curator Stephan Klee. For anyone who would like to delve deeper into the subject, Sunday tours with Joos Ziegler are on the program on October 19th and November 2nd. Finally, on December 6th, a long art afternoon with tours, presentations and discussions will be offered before the finissage on December 7th, which concludes the exhibition with a comprehensive presentation of the edition of the exhibition entitled “Earthing Discharge”.
Marjolijn Dijkman, who was born in the Netherlands in 1978 and lives in Brussels, has made a name for herself through her projects and is co-founder of “Enough Room for Space”. Her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Piet Zwart Institute have shaped her interdisciplinary approach. She is currently researching as part of a PhD program at the LUCA School of Arts.
The exhibition is made possible by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture and other supporters. Anyone interested in the current changes between humans and nature should not miss the opportunity to discover the fascinating works of Marjolijn Dijkman. Kind in and Göttingen Art Association cordially invite you!
