A path to parish service
The vicariate, which Koch completed from autumn 2022 to spring 2025 in the Evangelical Church of Werden, is part of the church preparatory service, which is divided into two stages in the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD): the study of Protestant theology and the vicariate. The latter usually includes a practical phase in a community, which is accompanied by a mentor, as well as theoretical phases in the preacher seminar, as shown on Wikipedia is to be experienced.
In the vicariate you learn everything important for your future parish work. This includes not only preparing for church services and pastoral care, but also working with confirmation candidates. Koch describes his upcoming ordination as a lifelong mission to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, baptize and celebrate the Lord's Supper.
Active contribution to the community
After his ordination, Christian Koch will work as a parish priest in the Evangelical Church of Kupferdreh as well as in other communities in the south-east region, which includes Bergerhausen, Burgaltendorf, Heisingen, Rellinghausen and Überruhr. In addition, he is already a member of the theological support team in the church district and is involved in the second phase of the structural process “Change in the Evangelical Church in Essen”.
The preparatory services in the area of Protestant churches are carefully structured. The vicariate courses usually start twice a year, and the vicariate extends over two and a half years, as shown on the website Evangelical Regional Church of Württemberg is explained. This structured training is an important foundation for successful work in the community.
With the ordination of Christian Koch, a new step in his professional career is now imminent, and both he and the communities he will serve in the future can look forward to the tasks ahead.
