Veilchen Ladies start the season with a big test game program!
Today everything in Göttingen is focused on women's basketball. The BG 74 Göttingen, better known for its “Veilchen Ladies”, is thoroughly preparing for the coming season. Training begins on August 20, 2025, and this is no easy task for the players, as the Phillips twins, Sophie and Lilly, have to miss the start of training. This will probably mean a balancing act for the team, as they have to prove themselves in a tight preparation program with five test matches in just 15 days.
The first test is scheduled for August 30, 2025. The team will then take on the Eintracht Braunschweig Lionpride, an opponent from the 2nd DBBL-Nord, at 5 p.m. Further test games follow: on September 6th against the BasCats USC Heidelberg and KuSG Leimen Basketball in Baden-Württemberg, on September 10th at BC Marburg from the 1st DBBL and finally on September 14th a home game against the Falcons Bad Homburg. If you don't want to miss the games, you can look forward to the fact that entry to the home games on August 30th and September 14th is free.
Trainer with experience
The team is coached by the experienced Ruzica Dzankic. The BG 74 coach was most recently assistant coach of the German U20 national team, which took ninth place at the European Championships in Matosinhos, Portugal. Dzankic not only brings her extensive experience to the floor, but also the passion and will to move women's basketball forward. Her career so far shows impressively that she has a feel for talent and can inspire her players to achieve top performance.
At a time when women's basketball is receiving more and more attention, it is important that talent is nurtured. This is also supported by the new national coach of the women's national team, Lisa Thomaidis. She has succeeded Walt Hopkins and will lead the team to EuroBasket 2023. Thomaidis, a Canadian coach, already praised the German team's qualification as a fantastic achievement and offered her expertise to further strengthen women's basketball. Their committed approach fits perfectly with the ambitions of BG 74 Göttingen and their striving for success in the coming competition year.
Summer festival as a highlight
But it's not just the sporting activities that are on the agenda. Next Saturday there will be a summer festival in Göttingen around the FKG Hall. In addition to sporting activities, there will also be an evening party. An event that not only brings together the fans, but also the players of the Veilchen Ladies and strengthens the community.
So there is an exciting time ahead for BG 74 Göttingen and its supporters. All basketball-loving fans should mark the dates in red on their calendars and cheer on the Veilchen Ladies!
