Burglaries in Braunlage: Car dealership and beverage store in sight!
On the quiet night from Tuesday to Wednesday, burglars targeted shops in Braunlage. The unknown suspects ransacked the premises in two different restaurants, a car dealership on Am Buchholzplatz and a drinks market on Bahnhofstrasse. So far there is no exact information about the possible stolen goods, but the police in Goslar are asking the public for helpful information about the incidents. These can be reported on 05321 3390 or at the Braunlage police station on 05520 93260, as regionalheute.de reports.
Another example of the increasing burglary crime in the region occurred at the Braunlage ice stadium. There was a break-in here on the night of March 21st, in which the perpetrator or perpetrators caused considerable damage to lockers. The damage is estimated at around 5,000 euros. Here too, the burglars only stole coins. Interestingly, burglaries have been a recurring problem in recent years, as figures from the Federal Criminal Police Office show. The police-recorded cases of residential burglaries in Germany have been less than encouraging since 2014: in 2024 alone, over 100,000 burglaries were registered, a worrying increase that should alarm the population. This information is available in a comprehensive data collection on Statista.
Break-ins: A growing problem
The break-ins in Braunlage are not the only incidents in the region. Before the break-in at the business premises, several similar crimes occurred that caused excitement in the tranquil Harz region. The incident at the ice rink, which is open for the skating season until April 22nd, was making the rounds. Opening times during the season are well known to the public and are Monday to Thursday from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm, with special ice disco events on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The hitherto quiet leisure resort has experienced more damage than joy from break-ins in recent months.
