Tragic bathing accident: man in the inner stestel lock disappeared!

On Sunday, June 23, 2025, a tragic incident occurred at the Inner Steassperre in the Goslar district. A 40-year-old swimmer disappeared when he bathing under his wife's eyes, and the news about the accident caused the community upset. The Altenau fire brigade was alerted by phone at 4:37 p.m. when the man was reported missing. A large -scale search was immediately started in which numerous emergency services were involved.

The measures carried out initially included the use of a device car, an emergency boat and a diver. The water rescue department from Clausthal-Zellerfeld was also quickly used, the divers carried out three dives. Unfortunately, the underwater conditions were anything but optimal: limited view and old tree roots make the search significant. In order to explore the surroundings, a surface search was organized with three boats in parallel and a drone of the fire brigade Liebenburg, which provided aerial photographs to coordinate the missions.

dramatic search with many challenges

Despite all efforts, the search was unsuccessful until dark. The search was officially canceled on Sunday evening and the site was handed over to the police. This confirmed that the missing person had disappeared under the water surface when swimming and it was the greatest regret that one would assume a fatal bathing accident. On Monday the search continued with a sonar device to find the hope of what has remained.

It should be noted that the inner stall lock is a water that is released for swimming, but the use of which is not without risk. Beach accidents can be done quickly and the first few minutes are crucial. In a bathing accident, every second counts to prevent possible life -threatening damage. Experts recommend always keeping an eye on your own security in such situations and not jumping into the water immediately, as this can often tighten the situation. A person who drowns can panicked and put the rescuers in danger. For inexperienced swimmers there are some basic procedures to provide help, such as securing your own point of view with holding on a firm object or throwing floating objects for rescue.

The incident at the Inner Steathersperre has once again illustrated the dangers of bathing in natural waters. It all reminds us of how important it is to be aware of the risks and to always prioritize your own security and that of others. We hope for good news for the family of the missing and that the circumstances will soon be educated.
