Missing autistic boy from Wendessen found after hours!
On Friday evening, August 29th, a ten-year-old boy from the Wendessen district in the Wolfenbüttel district went missing. At 6:45 p.m., the autistic boy, who is partially disorientated and rarely speaks, left his parents' house. His parents immediately called the police after he didn't return. The boy has short, dark blonde hair and was wearing a blue hoodie, black jeans, black sandals and blue and white socks at the time of his disappearance. The first indications of his disappearance were signaled around 6:30 p.m.
The search began on Saturday night and continued until the early hours of the morning. A large contingent of emergency services was deployed, including a police helicopter, mantrailer dogs, search dogs from the Maltese Association and drone teams from the Wolfenbüttel fire department. Many helpful civilians also joined the effort and helped in the search for the young boy. Police turned to the public for help, supported by radio announcements and social media posts. During this critical phase, concerns grew for the well-being of the boy, whose autistic tendencies made the search even more difficult. The combination of disorientation and lack of contact with strangers represented a major obstacle, as Spiegel reports.
Successful use
On Saturday afternoon, around 12 p.m., finally the good news: the boy was found in a garage near his home, and fortunately he was uninjured. This news brought great relief to the community and emergency responders who had worked hard to find the boy. Shortly before he was found, a description of the boy was published and the search measures were further expanded, as News38 notes.
The Salzgitter police have now started an investigation to clarify the background to the boy's disappearance. While the adventurous search for him led to a happy ending, the question remains as to how such situations can possibly be prevented in the future.
The quick and coordinated reactions as well as the support from the population underline the strength of the community in Wendessen and its ability to deal with challenging situations. It shows once again how important a good network of information and willingness to help is.
A big thank you goes to all the emergency services and volunteers who made a valuable contribution in this tense situation.
