Market church community St. Georgii et Jacobi on an exciting journey of discovery around the topic of pigeons in the Kreuzkirche Hanover. Small and large are welcome from 2:00 p.m. to explore the fascinating world of city pigeons for two hours.

The event is aimed at children from the age of six who take part with an adult. When exploring the Kreuzkirche, many a secret is revealed: How do pigeons live in the city? What do biblical stories tell about these feathered friends? And above all, what surprises does the city have in store? Together with the Network TaubenRettung Hannover e. V. leads the event to the city, where the little adventurers receive exciting information about the origin and intelligence of the pigeons.

But in addition to the childlike curiosity, it is important to shed light on the challenges with which the city pigeons are confronted. Opinions about these birds diverge far: some people have a big heart for the animals and provide them, while others reject them and sometimes even abuse. Prof. Dr. Sibylle Wenzel , Bremen's State Animal Protection Officer, emphasizes that the city pigeons often live under merciless conditions that have arisen from our human activities.

The widespread loyalty to the deaf site ensures that they regularly use their breeding places in places that are often faced with pigeon defense measures. Unfortunately, this often means that many young pigeons die in stone breeding grounds or suffer from hunger. Despite these frightening conditions, the population dynamics of the pigeons are evident: they multiply rapidly, which increases the problem.

Suggestions include the creation of a central contact point for coordinating projects, support from all relevant authorities and the implementation of animal welfare measures such as assisted pigeon houses or the care of injured animals.
