Accessibility in focus

One of the most important goals of the project was to create barrier-free access to the stop. This resource was funded with the support of the Lower Saxony State Local Transport Company and the Hildesheim district. What is particularly pleasing is the installation of a tactile guidance system that was specifically designed for blind and visually impaired people. It enables clear guidance through tactile floor indicators that make orientation easier.

In order to organize the orders efficiently and to keep traffic disruptions as low as possible, the entire project was carried out by one company. A highlight of the construction project is the fact that all of this work was part of the renovation work on the stormwater sewer that was already underway, which started on August 18, 2025.

Disruptions and diversions

As is usual with large construction sites, there were some challenges during the renovation phase, in particular the required full closure of Rex-Brauns-Straße. The reason for this was the central location of the canal in the roadway. But there is good news for residents and business owners: All properties remained within walking distance during construction, and the hypermarkets are still accessible from the south. Only line 5 of Hildesheim city transport had to be rerouted to make the work possible.
