Police stop dangerous driver duo on the A7 near Hildesheim!
On the evening of July 12, 2025, more precisely at 10:15 p.m., police officers from the Hildesheim Motorway Police carried out a traffic stop on the Federal Motorway 7, in the direction of Kassel. A Toyota Corolla, driven by a 41-year-old woman from Hamburg, caught the attention of the officers. She was accompanied by her 44-year-old husband and two children when they were stopped at the Hildesheimer Börde-West gas station and rest area. The car had previously caused surprise during police patrols, which prompted the officers to check the vehicle.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the Toyota braked sharply and stopped on the hard shoulder. During the subsequent check, the police discovered that the man who had sat in the passenger seat no longer actually had a driver's license. This turned out to be a dangerous deceptive maneuver, as the two had apparently carried out the driver change intentionally in order to avoid inspection. The man is now being held responsible for driving without a license and for parking on the highway, as news.de reports.
Another bizarre control
But that wasn't the only incident that evening. At 10:30 p.m., the police stopped a 39-year-old man from Hamburg in a Ford Transit who was traveling on the A7 towards Hanover. As [hildesheimer- Allgemeine.de](https://www.hildesheimer- Allgemeine.de/melde/polizei-stoppt-auf-der-a7-bei-hildesheim-einen-39-jaehrigen-der-nicht-fahrerlaubnis-mehr-hat-sein-mitfahrer-muss-zudem-das-land-verlassen.html) reports, the driver was unable to produce a valid driver's license. His Bulgarian driving license was invalid because his driving license had been revoked some time ago. He handed over a driver's license that he had reported lost three years ago but still kept.
The 39-year-old was not alone. His passenger, a 27-year-old man, showed a fake Bulgarian identity card and a possible forgery of a registration certificate from Hamburg. When the identity was clarified at the police station, it turned out that the passenger is a Turkish citizen and is obliged to leave the country due to a rejected asylum application. This led to an immediate arrest and further legal action against him after the Hildesheim public prosecutor initiated proceedings for forgery of documents and illegal residence.
What exactly happens during a traffic stop?
The general traffic controls, as carried out in Hildesheim, are not legally defined, but are based on the provisions of Section 36 Paragraph 5 of the Road Traffic Act. During a check, police officers are allowed to stop road users, check their identity and fitness to drive and request documents such as driving licenses and vehicle registration documents. Such checks are possible both independently of suspicion and based on circumstances. The aim is to ensure safety in road traffic and to ensure that all road users comply with legal regulations, as fachanwalt.de explains.
Failure to comply with police instructions can result in fines, and the police are also authorized to check driving safety and vehicle conditions. Those under control are not obliged to answer incriminating questions, and alcohol or drug tests are only to be carried out if suspected.
These incidents once again illustrate how important the work of the police is for road safety. Whether it's driving without a license or illegal stays, officers are always required to monitor compliance and ensure safety on the roads.
