Wanted Algerian arrested at Lüneburg train station – now in custody!

On July 17, 2025, the federal police in Lüneburg arrested a wanted Algerian robber who was traveling with fake tickets. Now the 22-year-old is sitting behind Swedish curtains and has to face various serious allegations.

At around 8:55 p.m., federal police received a report from an ICE 584 conductor who discovered a passenger with a counterfeit ticket. During the check it turned out that the young man was not only a well-known Algerian, but was also wanted by various authorities. The Cologne District Court issued one Arrest warrant for robbery. The Cologne and Hamburg public prosecutors have also registered interest in him because of attacks on police officers.

Various crimes and international manhunt

But that's not all: the Dutch authorities also have one Schengen search initiated to repatriate the man to Algeria. He only entered Germany in 2022 and his whereabouts are far from clear. Now he is suspected of being here without permission and of pursuing fraudulent intentions.

After his arrest, the arrested man was immediately transferred to the correctional facility after the Lüneburg district court ordered the immediate execution of the pre-trial detention. Such incidents have increased in recent years, with police crime statistics (PKS) reporting around 5.84 million crimes in 2024. This represents a decrease of 1.7%, although this does not apply to all crimes. Statista shows that thefts, property crimes and counterfeiting crimes are particularly common.

A worrying trend

What is worrying is that non-German suspects increased to 41.8% in 2024. The arrested 22-year-old appears to be part of this trend. While the clearance rate has fallen slightly, crimes against life only account for 0.1% of cases, but they are still of great importance for the public's perception of crime because they severely affect the feeling of security.

With this arrest in Lüneburg, the federal police show that they are willing to take action against criminals and protect citizens. It remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old can successfully free himself from this predicament, but the police have already achieved a small partial success.
