Free training for relatives of dementia sufferers in Bleckede!
In Germany, around 1.8 million people struggle with the challenges of dementia every day. In the city and district of Lüneburg alone there are over 3,100 people affected, and the number is expected to continue to rise due to increasing life expectancy. In this difficult situation, relatives are often particularly under pressure because they are heavily involved in the care and support. But not everything has to be managed alone; The AWO Bleckede, the Bleckede Senior Citizens' Advisory Council and the Lüneburg Alzheimer Society have a common goal: to offer support for the relatives of people suffering from dementia.
The initiators have already launched concrete measures to remove taboos from the often shameful approach to dealing with the disease. Under the motto “No one has to be ashamed when they ask for support!” invite you to training courses at the AWO community center, Breite Straße 39. Relatives of people suffering from dementia can take part in these training courses free of charge and receive important information on the topics of “dealing with patients”, “legal and financial issues” as well as “the course of the disease and non-drug therapies”.
Courses and their content
The first event will take place on Tuesday, September 9th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., as part of a total of six meetings held twice a week. The training courses are specifically designed to show participants options for relief and to better prepare them for the challenges in everyday life. For example, they can gain information about the most common symptoms of Alzheimer's, which often appear gradually and can be easily overlooked. Many relatives simply perceive these warning signs as forgetfulness of old age.
According to landeszeitung.de there are over 100 different causes of dementia, with Alzheimer's disease being the most common and cannot be cured itself.
An important network
The Alzheimer Society Lüneburg e.V., which has existed since 1997, is also committed to improving the care situation for people with dementia and their relatives. She is committed to raising awareness of the first symptoms of dementia and ways to help. In this connection, not only local organizations, but also initiatives such as demenz-portal.at offer special training and advice for relatives. This help can be supplemented through self-help groups and clubs so that relatives are not alone during difficult times.
The support offers are so important because the challenges in dealing with the illness on a daily basis are often serious. In view of the progressive progression of dementia, relatives can better deal with the situation by participating in training courses and exchanging ideas in self-help groups and learn important options for dealing with the difficulties and changes in the lives of those affected.
At a time when public speaking about dementia is still rare, any initiative that sheds light on it and helps give family members the support they need counts. Those interested can register for the relatives training course “Help in Helping” by telephone or email and thus take the first step towards a less stressful future.
