Lüneburg was once again awarded the FaMi seal as a family-friendly employer, confirming modern human resources policy.

Lüneburg has received the FaMi seal for family friendliness for the fourth time

The Hanseatic city of Lüneburg shines again: for the years 2025 to 2027, it has received the coveted FaMi seal for the fourth time in a row, which distinguishes it as a family-friendly employer. This recognition, as the Uelzen press reports, recognizes the administration's commitment to a modern and life-stage-oriented personnel policy. Mayor Claudia Kalisch emphasizes that family-friendliness is an ongoing process that requires constant adjustments.

Combining work and family – Lüneburg makes it possible! The city offers its employees a variety of flexible working time models as well as generous part-time options. The focus here is on the ability to combine work and family obligations. For example, the proportion of part-time managers was increased from 18% to 23%. The home office offers are also attractive: the number of home office jobs has almost doubled recently.

Diverse support for employees

What makes the FaMi seal award so special? An important aspect is the newly introduced online career portal, which has offered a special area for family-friendliness since 2024. Employees also have the opportunity to take up to five days off each year for personal training. This commitment is supplemented by individual sabbatical models that are combined with social security protection.

The city's equal opportunities officer promotes respectful, discrimination-sensitive coexistence. In the interests of a fair working atmosphere, an internal complaints office was even set up. “Small changes can make big differences,” emphasizes Brigitte Kaminski from the community initiative behind the FaMi seal. Matthias Richter-Steinke from the DGB adds that the seal is not only an award, but also creates an incentive to constantly question and improve family-friendliness.

Together for family-friendly working conditions

The FaMi seal is a joint initiative supported by, among others, the IHK, the Chamber of Crafts and the DGB. Companies that are also interested in certification as a family-friendly employer can have an online analysis carried out free of charge. The aim is to fill out an extensive questionnaire that records the family-friendly measures that already exist in the company. After a successful certification process, the companies receive an exclusive employer seal. This can be used on the company website, in job postings and other communication channels.

Another aspect that characterizes Lüneburg's family-friendly policy is the flexible working time models. The use of working time accounts allows employees to collect overtime and undertime and use it for later leaves of absence or sabbaticals. These models, as described in the NRW family portal, among others, offer employees the freedom to organize their working hours in such a way that they do justice to the current phases of life.

Overall, the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg shows that a lot can be achieved with a clever and well-thought-out concept when it comes to enabling employees to have a balanced relationship between work and family. The FaMi seal is not only a sign of recognition, but also an incentive to continue to promote positive development in the city.
