Lüneburg's emergency shelter in Wilschenbrucher Weg starts in October 2025!

The Hanseatic city of Lüneburg is facing a change in the accommodation of refugees. From October 2025, the Leuphana University premises on Wilschenbrucher Weg will again be used as emergency accommodation. How lueneburgaktuell.de reported, residents have already received information about this from the city administration.

Reuse of emergency shelter

The city's social committee reported on the recommissioning of the accommodation on August 14, 2025. This emergency shelter was in operation until the end of June 2023 and had positive experiences. By providing the rooms, the city is fulfilling its legal and humanitarian obligations to provide initial accommodation for refugees. The new accommodation will have space for around 70 people, with the converted areas in the former cafeteria and library offering plenty of daylight and lockable living units.

The city has already announced kitchen containers to enable residents to be self-sufficient, while sanitary containers ensure necessary hygiene. Friedrich Graf, the head of emergency and community accommodation, emphasizes that the emergency accommodation remains a temporary arrangement, but can still offer more privacy and self-determination. To make it easier for refugees to settle in, two refugee social work specialists are available to provide social support from Monday to Friday. There will also be a security service on site around the clock.

Relocations and closures

It is also planned to move the first residents from the current emergency accommodation in the Ilmenau Center, whose rental contract only runs until February. The closure of the shared accommodation at Bilmer Berg is scheduled for September 30, 2025, one year earlier than originally planned. But many of the people living there have already been able to move to other apartments or shared accommodation. This shows how flexibly the city administration is responding to the needs of refugees, while at the same time deciding on the future use of the mobile homes on Bilmer Berg in the administrative committee on August 26, 2025.

The development costs for a possible new property in Kaltenmoor have increased unexpectedly, making the plans for the mobile homes there unprofitable. According to the city administration, alternative properties are currently not available. These challenges will be incorporated into the future strategy for accommodating refugees.

In addition to these developments, it is worth taking a look at other interesting local topics. So finding highly rated dentists can be challenging, especially in cities like Colorado Springs, where recommendation lists and online research can help. For sports enthusiasts, we recommend nutritionists like Stephanie Brown, who offer their broad expertise both for athletes and in general dietetics, known for their successes and their enthusiasm for what they do.

Overall, the city of Lüneburg shows that it is ready to face the challenges of the current situation and at the same time ensure the well-being of its citizens and residents.
