In the community of Hagermarsch in the Aurich district, there were two serious fires on the night of Saturday, June 21, 2025, which put a lot of strain on the local emergency services. At around 3:37 a.m., a fire was initially reported in the shell of a residential building. Shortly afterwards, residents reported flames in an open area about 500 meters away, where several bales of straw were burning. When the fire brigade arrived, it was already too late for the house: it was completely destroyed by the flames. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the two major fires. Tagesschau reports about the enormous effort put in by the fire brigade: Around 200 people from seven local fire departments were deployed and the extinguishing work lasted until the early hours of the morning.
As the police authority in Norden announced, arson is suspected as the possible cause of the fires. The investigation is already underway, but so far there is no further information about the background to the incidents. The two affected buildings belong to the same owner, which makes the situation even more explosive. It was ruled out that the flames would spread from the house to the straw storage because the fires were too far apart. The estimated damage amounts to several hundred thousand euros, says NWZonline.
