Ikea lowers prices: 50% discount on main dishes in Oldenburg and Bremerhaven!
If you are looking to reduce costs for your physical well-being in the coming period, the Ikea branches in Oldenburg and Bremerhaven now have a tempting offer ready. From June 27th to August 30th every Friday and Saturday it’s “Feutage”! Driven by the rising cost of living, customers can look forward to a whopping 50% discount on warm main dishes. Köttbullar and Plantbullar are then available for just 6.45 euros instead of the regular 12.90 euros. Guests can also expect an additional treat on these days: a five-euro voucher for the respective day and branch. But where is the catch? Unfortunately, no discount can be expected in the branches in Chemnitz, Berlin-Waltersdorf and Freiburg due to renovations.
As the District newspaper reports, this discount campaign is a response to people's changing consumption habits, which are becoming increasingly price-sensitive. Studies show that less and less money is being spent in commercial catering, even if the sector's sales increased by 6.1% to around 12.4 billion euros in 2024. A slight upward trend with a forecast increase in sales of 4.1% to 12.9 billion euros for 2025.
The reason for the increase? The need for attractive, affordable offers is increasing.
The future of commercial catering
In order to meet the needs of a younger target group, the EHI's specialist knowledge is required. This group over 45 years of age currently accounts for almost two thirds of sales. So, how can you get young people excited about visiting restaurants in stores? The EHI Retail Institute plans to work with retailers and experts to develop new offers and concepts that respond to the trends and needs of young consumers. Essential elements include trend-oriented dishes, digital ordering options and adapted price and discount models, such as those intended to appeal to schoolchildren and students.
According to the EHI Commercial catering is a continuous offering of gastronomic services, drinks and prepared food that is related to commercial activities. In order to meet the challenges of the industry, a multi-stage scenario project for 2025 is being launched. Results of the workshops will finally be presented on September 24th & 25th, 2025 at the EHI Retail Gastronomy Forum.
Changes in consumer trends
Back to the trends: The need for more freshness and variety, coupled with increased price consciousness, can no longer be ignored. The Commercial catering portal emphasizes that the catering industry will continue to develop strongly. Consumers are increasingly looking for cheaper offers and are looking for an all-round positive experience. The importance of gastronomic offerings in retail cannot be overestimated - they have now become an essential sales tool.
In conclusion: price is not everything, but it is a decisive factor. Regardless of whether at the “Feutagen” in Ikea or in other catering establishments – the awareness of quality at a fair price could have a significant influence on the future of retail catering. Who knows, perhaps these discount campaigns are the key to winning back lost customers and attracting new generations to good gastronomy.
