New playground in Berkum: A paradise for children and families!

A new playground in Berkum is now open to the public and promises fun and adventure for children and families. After around two years of planning and construction, the newly designed facility was opened in January 2025, a significant step as part of the Kanal-Fuhse-Region-West village development program. The entire conversion was 90% financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), which opened up the financial scope widely regionalheute.de reported.

The redesign is not only simply modern, but also focuses on the underground Schölke stream. The undulating asphalt path simulates the course of the river and ensures a harmonious overall appearance. The highlights include a large wooden mill in the sand area and a creative sand play device with a bucket and tube. There is a versatile playhouse for different age groups that invites exploration and stimulates the imagination.

Diverse possibilities

The playground equipment also includes new benches, logs and stone blocks that serve as seating. A large lawn remains as a ball game and soccer field and can also be used for various events. The square therefore meets the needs of the village community in many ways.

In order to make access easier for everyone – be it with a stroller, bicycle or walker – a newly created water-bound path was created. This natural design and the diverse range of uses make the playground a true paradise for little explorers and their families.

Funding for the future

But this playground is not the only one of its kind. There are currently many projects to renovate and redesign public playgrounds across the country that also rely on funding. How on spielplatzrechner.de stated, there is targeted funding for fundamental renovations and the construction of children's playgrounds. Eligible measures include, among other things, the purchase of child-friendly play equipment and additional equipment.

As part of the daycare center and playground renovation program (KSSP), 138 playground renovation measures were carried out in 2021 alone, reports berlin.de. This is considered extremely promising because the support strengthens the legal right to child day care. This means that future visits to the playground will not only be a great pleasure, but will also ensure a certain level of quality of care.

With the opening of the playground in Berkum it is once again clear that investing in playground infrastructure is a worthwhile matter. The combination of creativity and functionality meets the needs of families and makes the square a popular meeting point in the village. So if you're looking for another reason to have fun in Berkum, you've found it now!
